Pedder Bay RV Resort & Marina is located at 925 Pedder Bay Drive in Metchosin Directions

Parking & Walking to the Station
Parking is available in the grassy area at the end of the marina's main parking lot beside the Check-in Kiosk. If this area is unavailable (the chain may be closed), visitors may park near the entrance to the main parking lot. Please park well away from all boats and trailers. If you are arriving with a large group, please carpool whenever possible, as parking is limited.

Unless an RPBO volunteer is meeting you at the parking area, walk back along the entrance road approximately 100 metres past the second speed bump. Look for an orange cone and a wooden ramp on the right (north) side of the road. Follow the dirt trail uphill, keeping right at the junction. If it's at night, the lights of the banding station will guide you the rest of the way.

The Pedder Bay Coffee Shop is open from 7am to 5pm, 7 days a week (closed during evening owl banding operations.)

Public Visits
Visitor experiences are offered free of charge, but donations are always appreciated. Your support helps fund RPBO's advancing research and conservation and the habitats the birds depend on. If you are interested in arranging a visit for a school, community organization, or other group, please contact us. We will do our best to accommodate requests, subject to staffing and research activities.

Note About Weather
Bird Banding is weather dependent, and the weather is beyond our control. For the safety of the birds, operations may be cancelled at short notice due to rain or high winds. Please monitor the weather on the day of your visit.

Our Fall Migration Monitoring Program for songbirds runs from July 21 to October 18. The number of birds caught does drop around the first week of October.

Staff and Volunteer shifts start half an hour before sunrise and run for 7 hours. The best time to visit would be between 8 and 10am (earlier is better!).

Bird Walks are scheduled at 9am on Thursdays and Sundays. Meet the bird walk leader at the Pedder Bay Coffee Shop before 9am. You’ll be treated to an educational bird walk (flat terrain) followed by a visit to the bird banding station where you can see the birds up close! Everyone is welcome; bring binoculars if you’ve got them, and learn about the local birds!

RPBO's Nocturnal Owl Monitoring Program runs nightly from September 15 to October 31. Research begins at sunset and continues for approximately six hours each evening.

Public visits are offered on select nights by advance registration in one-hour time slots. Visit the RPBO Calendar of Events to reserve your spot.
