Focus on Birds
Focus on Birds 2026 Calendar
The summer has flown by, and so have the birds!
Fall migration is beginning, and it has been a year filled with fascinating birdwatching achievements that we are proud to celebrate with you.
We are now creating the 2026 Rocky Point Bird Observatory "Focus on Birds" calendar, a significant project that aims to showcase the beauty and diversity of bird species found on Vancouver Island. The calendar will be sold to raise funds needed to achieve our migration monitoring, education and research goals.
This calendar will feature important dates for bird enthusiasts, such as World Migratory Bird Day, Victoria Bird Week, and the Christmas Bird Count for Kids.
Most importantly, we want to include YOUR incredible bird photos.
We are looking for images of birds seen on southern Vancouver Island.
Please send your photos to "development@rpbo.org." Please use the subject line: "2026 RPBO Calendar entry".
In the message body, please include the bird's identification, the location where it was spotted, and the photographer's name.
We can't wait to see each and every photo. As we reside in the Birding Capital of Canada, we want to celebrate the diversity of bird species found here.
By submitting your bird photos for this contest, you are granting RPBO permission to use your image in the RPBO calendar; however, we want to assure you that you retain the full intellectual property rights to your photo.
We will accept submissions from RPBO members. If you're not a member yet, joining or renewing your membership not only allows you to submit your photos but also gives you access to many member benefits and opportunities to deepen your connection to our community of bird lovers.
Submissions must be received by August 31, 2025.
A selection of the top photographs will be showcased on our webpage and through RPBO social media channels. #RPBOCalendar.
We will accept a maximum of three submissions from a single person. We do not guarantee that all photos will be used publicly.
There will be no compensation for submitted photos, but all photographers whose submissions are included will be credited.
A panel of RPBO volunteers will choose the final selections for the 2026 calendar based on the quality, relevance, and diversity of the submissions.
The calendar will be available for purchase beginning in October. All proceeds will support RPBO programs.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Gaylia Lassner, RPBO Development Director, at development@rpbo.org. We look forward to your submissions!
